Health and Nutrition Activities for Preschoolers - Reduced Appetite

Preschoolers normally have the right appetite, just enough to meet their daily body energy requirements.However,feeding them while standing, feeding them while in worried mood and not supervising them while eating are the major causes of reduced appetite in preschoolers.

Some parents who use food as a reward or punishment kill the appetite of preschoolers completely. When you don't respect your child's food preference and allow them choose what they want, it would be hard to maintain their appetite at a steady level. When meal times are not interesting, food appeal will be lost. Barring your preschoolers from participating in food preparation is also another major cause of reduced food appetite since they are always willing to lend a helping hand.

Quality Health and Nutrition for Preschoolers

Preschoolers need the right type and amount of food to enable them grow. The right amount of nutrients should be served. For example, preschoolers need vitamins to develop their immunity against diseases and serving then with green vegetables will provide them with this. Carbohydrates are necessary to ensure that the body gets the energy it needs to take care of everyday needs. Feeding your child with cereals will provide the necessary energy.

However, right amount of fats and some micronutrients are required by the body to develop. Foods with too much sugar and chunk foods which include deep fried rations should not be served to preschoolers.

Good Food for Children: What Not to Serve

Not every food you serve is useful to your child hence it is imperative that you serve the right food that will be beneficial to your child. Serving too much fatty foods will make your child gain unnecessary weight. Sugary and highly spiced foods do not make good food for your child too.

By giving your child coated food always, you will be reducing the chances of him or her eating nutritious natural foods which do not have sugar in it. Do not serve lots of drinks during meal times and fix snacks and dinner in a way that will not reduce your child's appetite during main meal.
